Warrior Wednesday: Ashley

Warrior Wednesday: Ashley

Happy Wednesday! I just have to say, I am really enjoying learning about different warriors from around the world and hope you are too! Everyone has a unique journey but there are things in each story I have found relatable, which brings us closer together as a community and as people. Looking forward to learning more! I would love to share more stories about other warriors but also therapists, adaptive clothing brands etc. so send me a message if interested…

Blog Book

Blog Book

I have really enjoyed writing and sharing this blog and hope once things settle down I can write more!  I  think these posts will be a great way to look back and reflect on this journey and share details with Evie when she is older.  When we got back from St. Louis, I had a moment where I was thinking, “What happens if I lost everything?!”  Yes, I know that there are ways to back websites up etc. but I…

So Long St. Louis

So Long St. Louis

Evelyn has hit the one month post-op milestone!  Since being back home we have been reflecting on the last month and everything that has happened.  When you are “in it” you sometimes don’t realize everything going on around you so thought I would look back and summarize this chapter of Evelyn’s Life Changing Journey! Highlights Evelyn having life changing surgery!  This has to be the biggest highlight because this procedure left her spasticity free (bye, bye spasticity).  Her future mobility…

Day 19 – “Walk, Walk”

Day 19 – “Walk, Walk”

Happy Monday!  Evie slept in this morning till almost 7:30 am, which almost never happens.  She woke up in a great mood and completed her exercise program without any complaints.  This morning she had therapy with Jessica and Oma came along.   The therapy room set up has changed as they continue to do renovations and we got to see the brand new floor on the side that they were working on.  Very nice and slip resistant! It was busy in…

Day 17 & Day 18 – CP Awareness Day

Day 17 & Day 18 – CP Awareness Day

It was another cold and wet weekend in St. Louis so we stuck to indoor activities.  Now that Evie has her new orthodics a shoe hunt began!  We checked out two indoor malls and the two outlet malls in the area and today we finally had some luck.  Shoe shopping is not the easiest when you have orthodics to consider.  You need more space in the toes, in the width of the shoe and in the height too.  New Balance…

Day 16 – New Super Shoes

Day 16 – New Super Shoes

Evelyn had a great sleep last night since she was free of her casts! You could tell her mood was much better, especially since her independence is returning.  Once she had her “Super Shoes” on she was walking around from room to room and chasing Wes.  It was so nice to see her happier! We got to the hospital with some time to spare so Evie walked the halls.  When Brian tried to give her a hand she said “I…

Day 15 – Ciao Casts

Day 15 – Ciao Casts

Physiotherapy was at 9:00 am so we all had to move a bit faster this morning.  After a brisk walk to the hospital we ran into another SDR family in the therapy waiting room who we have chatted with a few times.  It was nice to catch up on how they were doing. Evelyn worked really hard this morning.  She started on the treadmill again but this time she walked backwards for six minutes.  Next she worked with a giant…

Day 14 – Two Weeks Post-Op

Day 14 – Two Weeks Post-Op

Can’t believe it has been two weeks since Evie had SDR!  Time is really flying by but also not very fast at the same time.  I guess it depends on what we are doing.  Two weeks from today we will be back home sleeping in our own beds.  Looking forward to that but still looking forward to many things here in St. Louis we want to check out and of course seeing Evie progress with her “new legs.”  The glue…

Day 9 – Moon Boots

Day 9 – Moon Boots

It was another first today for Evie…serial casting!  This morning she got a cast put on each of her legs.  The casts are to give each heel cord/ankle a nice long stretch.  They are hoping this will increase her range 10 to 15 degrees on each foot.  The extra range will help her with her gait pattern and alignment.  She will need to wear the casts for about a week.  The casts are made of fiberglass, plaster and there is…

Day 7 – Wild Walking Wednesday

Day 7 – Wild Walking Wednesday

It has officially been one week since Evie had SDR surgery!  How the time has flown! It honestly feels a like a dream that it has happened already.  We were anticipating it for so long.  Now every day we look forward to seeing her get stronger and re-develop her skills.  What a journey it will continue to be! Evie had more of a restless night but no spasms.  This morning the sun was shining so we decided to check out…
