Happy New Year!

It is only a week into 2018 and a lot has happened! The biggest news is we now have a date for Evelyn’s surgery!!

Over Christmas we asked to be put on the cancellation list for SDR.  Most of the families we know who have gone through this did the same and they all went earlier.  Due to the overwhelming support we have already received, we knew we would have enough funds to pay for the initial surgery and felt it was worth a shot to try and go before July.  We were hopeful it would happen.  A day after being confirmed we were on the list, it just so happened a cancellation occurred and we were offered that spot!

We will be heading to St. Louis for surgery on MARCH 7, 2018!!

I know what you are thinking…THAT IS SOON!!! Yes, that is 2 months away today!  Trust me, it is still sinking in.   We were shocked and excited but almost immediately I felt the panic inside me starting regarding all the stuff that comes along with going sooner – accommodations, changing plans, figuring out time off, what to pack and what is the weather going to be like in March?!  Literally my head was spinning!

After giving myself a moment I was also so relived and so excited!  This surgery date is 4 months sooner.  This means she will have that many more months of rehab before she starts school in Sept.  This means we will be able to help prevent further damage and contractures from happening if another growth spurt is on the horizon before the summer.  This means Evie’s Life Changing Journey will be starting that much sooner!!   The planner in me (which is a large part of me) is also thrilled that I can now plan both her pre and post op therapy!! So many YAYs!

The next two months are going to be a bit busier now as we plan for St. Louis, events etc. and when I start to feel overwhelmed I will remind myself of some good advice from a fellow CP Mom – “Don’t overthink it, just pack up and go!” She is right, the most important thing is we are going and Evie’s life will be changing that much sooner!
