Day 9 – Moon Boots
It was another first today for Evie…serial casting! This morning she got a cast put on each of her legs. The casts are to give each heel cord/ankle a nice long stretch. They are hoping this will increase her range 10 to 15 degrees on each foot. The extra range will help her with her gait pattern and alignment. She will need to wear the casts for about a week. The casts are made of fiberglass, plaster and there is also cotton and padding added. Evelyn laid on her tummy for almost an hour as both casts were put on. She was a little apprehensive at first but the promise of something from the treasure chest was enough to keep her calm throughout the process. When she was finished getting her new “Moon Boots” on she said “I really like my castses!”
Evie can not stand or walk on her casts for the first 24 hours as they set. She was given little cast shoes she can wear tomorrow when she starts walking around again. She only has a few pairs of pants that will actually fit over the casts. They were thicker than we thought. Daddy’s socks fit perfectly over the casts for extra toe warmth. She picked out a cute DIY bead necklace kit from the treasure chest which she was excited about. Tomorrow we will go find some fun permanent markers to decorate the casts (washable ones are not recommended).
The rest of the afternoon was pretty low key. We visited the Science Centre again and Ev went to bed with no issues. She seems comfortable enough in her casts so that’s good! We hope everyone has a great St. Paddy’s Day and weekend!!
