Day 17 & Day 18 – CP Awareness Day
It was another cold and wet weekend in St. Louis so we stuck to indoor activities. Now that Evie has her new orthodics a shoe hunt began! We checked out two indoor malls and the two outlet malls in the area and today we finally had some luck. Shoe shopping is not the easiest when you have orthodics to consider. You need more space in the toes, in the width of the shoe and in the height too. New Balance has been the best bet for us (and many others) and luckily today we found some extra wide ones!
Evelyn did a lot of walking both days this weekend. We have really noticed she is doing more of a “heel-toe” pattern, especially on her left foot. Sometimes she stomps as she walks. While Wesley napped in the stroller she practiced her “balance beam” walking on the curbs. Brian even had her practicing her side stepping around the gardens. She was pretty tired tonight!
March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness month and March 25th is National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day! Today we wore our “Warrior” shirts and green in support of those with cerebral palsy. We had these shirts made for our fundraiser back in January and I love them! Even before Evie’s SDR journey, CP awareness has been important to us. Before Ev we didn’t know much about CP so we have learned a lot and continue to learn about CP and the world that comes with it. Recently I told someone I just met that Evie had CP and she asked what the signs and symptoms were so she could watch for them since she had children. It was time to educate! She learned something new that day, CP isn’t contagious (she was a very lovely lady by the way). Hopefully through the blog and other things we do, we are helping in some small way in creating awareness!
Here is a great info-graphic about CP created by https://worldcpday.org/
Tomorrow we start our last full week of physiotherapy here in St. Louis. We also have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Park!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
