Day 14 – Two Weeks Post-Op

Day 14 – Two Weeks Post-Op

Can’t believe it has been two weeks since Evie had SDR!  Time is really flying by but also not very fast at the same time.  I guess it depends on what we are doing.  Two weeks from today we will be back home sleeping in our own beds.  Looking forward to that but still looking forward to many things here in St. Louis we want to check out and of course seeing Evie progress with her “new legs.”  The glue on her incision is practically off and she is healing well.

Today the sun was out so we decided to spend some time outside at the St. Louis Zoo.  As mentioned before, this zoo is awesome!  We explored some new areas and re-visited some others.  The polar bear was really fun to watch.  He kept diving and gliding in the pool in his enclosure.  Wesley really liked watching him as he effortlessly went back and forth.  We showed Oma and Opa the cool penguin and puffin exhibit where you can practically touch them they are so close (and touching is not allowed!).  We also checked out the 1904 World’s Fair Flight Cage which was very neat!  We said hello to the elephants again and checked out the awesome “big cat” area.  Evie walked  a lot and we all enjoyed the blue sky and sunshine, even if it was a bit chilly with the wind.

From the zoo we went right to therapy.  The later afternoon sessions are always more of a struggle for Ev as she is more tired.  She started with the treadmill, then did some one knee up, one knee down balancing as she threw balls into pockets.  Then she did some more blast offs on the Total Gym.  Lastly, she met a new friend! Another little girl with serial casts.  The two of them completed an obstacle course and worked on a “light bright” type of activity.  Once complete it was time to go and Ev started to cry and wanted to be picked up but we suggested she walk out with her new friend.  So they did, holding hands! So sweet!

Once back to the hotel it was dinner, there was some colouring and an early bedtime for Evie (Wes was a different story).    Hoping Ev has a solid sleep tonight.  Tomorrow she has physio bright and early and if all goes well, her casts will come off!

Hope everyone had a great “Hump Day!”
