World CP Day!
Today is World CP Day!
World CP Day is now a day in our calendar that our family participates in. This day was created to celebrate the 17 million people worldwide who have cerebral palsy. A day to celebrate all of their accomplishments as well as those who support them. World CP Day is also about ensuring that people with CP have the same opportunities, rights and access as other members of their community and growing overall awareness about this permanent disability.
Before we had Evie I have to admit I didn’t know much about CP. I had a few classmates with it growing up but I had no idea that it could affect those with it so differently. I never thought about the hurdles people with CP may face and I certainly didn’t think about the challenges I would have to go through being a parent of a child with CP (or any disability for that matter). Since becoming a member of the CP community I try to educate others on CP and advocate for my CP warrior.
The last year has certainly been a whirlwind and Evie has come so far. When I start to think her progress has slowed, she does new things. She doesn’t let CP hold her back. She advocates for herself. She constantly amazes me and she and all the other warriors and their villages of people who love and support them should be celebrated!
So today we will be wearing green for the CP warriors, for those who support them and for Evie, our little hero!
