SDR Picnic
Last Sunday was the 3rd Annual SDR Picnic. We attended last year for the first time. It was before we even knew if we wanted to move forward with SDR. It was a great way for us to gather information from other families who were on their own SDR journey (and at different stages). It was a chance to connect in person with some people I had only talked to online. It was also a fun event!
As soon as there was a date for this year’s picnic it was in my calendar. In fact, we even left camping early to make sure we could make it to the picnic. This past year we started our own SDR journey and the people attending were people who supported us in so many ways. Many also had SDR this past year too (some we even saw in St. Louis). Also, with everyone’s therapy schedule, it is hard to hang out! The picnic provides that opportunity to catch up and let our warriors play.
This year’s theme was Superheros! A perfect theme for all of our “Super” kids and families. Superman was there to take pictures with and hang out with the kiddos and an awesome CP Mom made all of the kids personalized capes, even the siblings (amazing!!)! The food was delicious and the weather was great!
We visited with some old friends and made some new ones. Evie really bonded with her new friend Emily! They were so cute. Same age and similar personality. She was also thrilled to see her other pals! It was also wonderful to see all the kids who are now post-SDR. They have all come so far and are doing amazing! Some are now taking independent steps when they couldn’t take one before the surgery. SDR is truly life changing!
Thank you to everyone who organized and sponsored the picnic! We feel so lucky to have been included and we appreciate all the friendships we have made. Can’t wait to see what all these warriors do in the future!
