Day 5 – Discharge Day!

Day 5 – Discharge Day!

It was another big day for Evie…she was discharged from the hospital!  After three days of bed rest and five nights in the hospital, Evelyn was free to leave.  Of course we will still be visiting the hospital practically daily for therapy and follow-ups but still, it was exciting!

The day started out with another visit from a member of Dr. Park’s team.  He let us know that Evelyn’s bandage will need to remain on until Day 8 and was happy with how she was doing.  Next we headed down for physiotherapy where majority of our session was going over paperwork for both our family and for our therapy team back home.  We went over the things she can and can’t do over the next six weeks.  You are given a very detailed package on everything from the home therapy program to things you shouldn’t worry about (ie. bone may stick out a bit more above incision on her back, totally normal).

Evelyn was not feeling very good this morning during the session  Most likely from taking Tylenol on a tummy full of fruit.  She was looking a bit green but the therapist got her some crackers which helped.  The last part of the session we got her to side step around the table and then walk to her stroller.  As you can see, she wasn’t very happy about it.  We also picked up our schedule for the next three weeks.

Once back to the hospital room a nurse came in and gave us discharge papers.  We got a copy of the list of medications we needed to pick up at the pharmacy, another list of  things to know and was told never to hesitate to call up to their floor if we have a question.  We then packed up the room, said good luck to our roomie and headed to the pharmacy to pick up her meds and were out of there!

Evelyn was so happy to be back and Wesley was extremely excited to have all of of us together!  We are so thankful we were able to borrow a little table and chairs set from a local SDR Mom (her daughter had it a few years ago and she has helped SDR families every since).  We were also given a little school chair and a stool from another Canadian family, which has already been used!

This afternoon we encouraged Evelyn to sit and stand while making crafts.  She then wanted to walk around and dance.  She played on the floor for a bit and even got up on the couch!  I didn’t expect her to be able to do some of the things she is doing already.  The video below is one my Dad took while I was getting Wes down for a nap.   The more she moves, the better she is feeling.  We even got her back on the potty a few times today.

Tonight at bed time she rolled herself over onto her tummy (her preferred position to sleep).  We gave her Valium as sometimes leg spasms will happen at night, especially after a lot of activity.  Hoping we all get a good night’s sleep and looking forward to what she does tomorrow!

We also want to wish all our little buddies/teacher friends a Happy March Break!!
