Day 30 – Home Sweet Home
We arrived home on Wednesday after two days on the road and the moment we rolled into our drive way, we all started cheering (even Wes, it was cute!)! It was good to be back! We drove through rain, then snow, then it was cloudy, then more snow, then wind and then more snow (and why is it still snowing in April!?). It wasn’t the best drive but we made good time and stayed over night in Battle Creek, Michigan where Evie got to swim for the first time since her surgery! It was fun and she kicked more freely it seemed.
Since being back, we have been busy getting organized at home and it has been sooooo nice being back in our own rooms and beds. Having our own space feels amazing and the kids have both slept better. Looking forward to catching up with friends and family soon, we have missed you!!
Today we all went to IKEA before Evie had her first post-SDR therapy session. Evie was squatting amazingly well in front of a game in the IKEA cafeteria. I had to take a picture because I was so impressed. She looked comfortable! A few minutes later the whole room heard her screaming. It took Brian and I a second to realize the poor thing had squatted so low she got bit by her heel stop on her AFOs (got pinched by the hinges of her braces). She has a small welt and I felt so bad for her, but on the other hand, she could bend that low for the first time (that was a bit exciting)!
Next we went to see Evie’s therapist Jessica who she hasn’t seen in over five weeks! Ev was excited to see her and proudly showed off her new walk to the team at SMILE. Jessica was excited to see some of the changes in Evelyn including how tall she was and how her heels were down. They worked on getting up off the floor, stairs, walking on uneven surfaces and completed an obstacle course where Ev had to walk on two balance beams (side by side) and take big steps in and out of hoops. I didn’t watch the whole session as Miss Evelyn was very clear she didn’t need me there, but I still managed to take a few pictures!
This weekend we will be starting to set up Evelyn’s home gym. Hoping she sleeps well as Monday is the start of her first full week of therapy. It is going to be busy and tiring but we look forward to seeing Evelyn’s abilities and strength grow in the upcoming months!
