Day 26 – Last PT Session (Here)
Happy Monday! Our last full day in St. Louis started with snow on the ground and breakfast as a family at the hotel. We received breakfast buffet vouchers since we have been at the hotel for so long (32 nights) and we have enjoyed eating there (maybe too much!). Today there was eggs benedict and the weekends there is an awesome omelet bar.
After breakfast we started to get organized for packing. It is crazy how much stuff four people accumulate. Other than some warmer weather clothing options we pretty much used everything we brought. We then headed to Evelyn’s last physiotherapy session here at the hospital.
Today Jessica tried some new activities. First Evie had to try and stand on an uneven surface with staggered feet and try and knock down bowling pins. Next she did some core work on a giant egg. She walked her hands out to get a frog and then threw it in the basket. Evie asked to do five more! Next after showing Jessica her “jumping” they practiced hopping forward using a floor ladders a guide.
Evie then went to a stairwell and worked on climbing the stairs and going down them. She did an excellent job alternating feet and even managed to do some with only holding on with one hand. She was pretty tired after doing this three times.
Evie then practiced single leg standing with one foot on top of a cylander (which moved constantly). I then blew bubbles and she was to try pop them but also wanted to blow them. This was a very tricky position to hold as both legs kept moving as she tried to balance. Definetly challenging
To end her last session Ev chose the swing and really had fun on it! She then gave Jessica the card she made her and gave her a hug. She has been awesome with Evie and is great at coming up with activities on the fly based on Evelyn’s interest and attention! Thank you so much Jessica!
After saying our goodbyes to another Jessica (who we saw when we first got here) we quickly met up with a fellow Durham family who just arrived (not just fellow Canadians but fellow Durham residents who live only 20 minutes away!). Their daughter has SDR on Wednesday and it was the first time our girls met but they seemed to click! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this little warrior!!
We then had one last meal in the cafeteria and took another picture outside the hospital before heading to the hotel to pack up.
Evelyn did great today at her last therapy session and it is hard to believe it was her last one. The last 4.5 weeks have all of a sudden gone by fast and here we are getting ready to go home.
It may have been Evie’s last PT session here but she has many many many more to come once home. We are looking forward to seeing our amazing team back home and wish the team here in St. Louis the best!
