Day 245 – 8 Months Post Op
Evie was 8 months post-op on November 7th. The fall is always a busy time of year (hence this is a bit late) but it has been a fun couple of weeks!
We are zoo members and October is their Member’s Appreciation Month. This means we get to bring guests in with us for FREE! We went a few times including with two sets of Evie’s Aunts and Uncles. The animals are always more active in the fall and we saw some really interesting things, like polar bears dancing/playing/fighting?! We all had fun spending time together!
October also means Halloween! I have always loved it and the kids are starting to love it too which is so fun! This year Evie suggested we be the Ghostbusters. Grandpa has been playing that song for the kids for a while now (they have never seen the movie or show) and I guess Evie liked it so much she wanted to be a Ghostbuster since August. The whole fam and Grandma and Grandpa dressed up as Ghostbusters, The Marshmallow Man and Slimer. We had a blast Trick or Treating and our costumes were a hit! There was also a Halloween parade and party at Evie’s school which she enjoyed!
We also visited a farm with Oma and Opa and brought home two giant pumpkins! It was a very cold day but Evie had a great time feeding the animals, going on the tractor ride and drinking freshly pressed cider.
Also in October was of course Thanksgiving which is always a nice time to spend with family, eat great food and reflect on what we are grateful for. We also attended a friend’s wedding while the kiddos hung out with Grandma and Grandpa. Evie went to a birthday party and tried out Lazer Tag for the first time and LOVED it.
There was a lot of play over the last few weeks but there is always hard work! Evie continues to be in therapy 3 days a week and doing SportBall on the weekends plus a few extra appointments. We heard from Dr. Park’s team in St. Louis regarding next steps and if she will need orthopedic surgery as her toe walking is still happening. As of now they do not feel she needs PERCS but that could still happen down the road. They feel her range of motion is pretty decent and reminded us to continue to keep stretching and wearing her AFOs. They think left leg weakness as well as habit could be the reason she is still popping up. We also discussed switching up her therapy program after Christmas. Evie is still getting stronger each day and yesterday when picking up her new “Super Shoes”, Evie’s orthotist commented how amazed he is at her new level of mobility. I love hearing comments like that because when you are in it day to day, you sometimes do not see the changes happening.
This month she will be rocking her new AFOs and shoe inserts (for times she doesn’t wear her AFOs). She also had a follow-up appointment with her ophthalmologist. Overall her eyes are WAY better but she seems to be stumbling a lot lately (growth spurt perhaps). We also have some more fun things planned of course.
Stay warm out there!
