Day 22 – Trying Times at Therapy
Surprise! It was raining today…again. Even the local folks are saying this is a lot of rain for St. Louis. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny so fingers crossed it is so we can check out more of this city before heading home.
Before therapy Evelyn worked on the activity Brian’s co-workers sent. She did an excellent job painting the egg cartons and her and Oma created three cute little critters. Ev’s interest in crafts has really grown since being here which is great! She also helped decorate a card for Rebecca as today was going to be her last therapy session with her.
Evie had therapy at 11:00 am so we were hoping it would go well. It was a bit of a trying time! Evie did not put her listening ears on, focus came and went and there was attitude. She did not sleep well last night between wearing her knee immobilizes, night splints and Wesley being loud, so I am sure that had something to do with it.
Rebecca got Ev to start on the treadmill. She wore a 1 lb weight on the leading leg and was supposed to side step on each side but she wasn’t cooperating and was goofing around. Next she got on the scooter board and was supposed to alternate legs while pushing and pulling herself across the room. Again, didn’t go quite as well as hoped. She did enjoy pushing Rebecca on the scooter and that worked her legs. Next she balanced on a disc and threw frogs into the basket. That activity went well. She then did some squats on “the rocket” and by some, maybe half were decent. Lastly Rebecca had her crawl through this contraption and down a slide twice.
We did manage to get a cute picture of Rebecca and Evie. Even though today was not the best session, we know Evie has enjoyed working with her. Thanks so much Rebecca for your patience, support, answering our questions, making therapy fun for Ev and getting her to where she is today!
After some quiet time, we decided to head back to the Science Centre to use some more of our OMNIMAX Theater tickets we got with our membership. It was a busy place! With the weather and Easter break, it was a popular place to visit today. We saw the Amazon Adventure film which I found interesting but the kids seemed more into the South Pacific one we saw before. Both were very beautifully shot and the OMNIMAX Theater is always neat to experience. After the show we went to check out the sail boats of course. Wes and I learned about Robert Pershing Wadlow who is/was the tallest known man in the world. He was 8 feet, 11 inches tall and from Illinois. Later the kids enjoyed building tunnels and having a ball shoot through them with air. Love that these kids like science!
We have physio tomorrow (yes, they work on Good Friday and Easter Monday) and hopefully it will be a more productive session before the weekend. Can’t blame the girl for being tired though and I am sure there will be many more therapy struggles to come. Tonight it was early to bed and no extra gear as little miss needs some solid sleep. Hoping for a good night’s sleep!
