Day 214 – 7 Months Post-Op
To our fellow Canadians, Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you are enjoying this long weekend and spending time with those you love (and hopefully enjoying some yummy food). Thanksgiving is a holiday where we get to spend time with our families and friends, get an extra day off and reflect on what we are thankful for (though we try and do this all year round). This year we have so much to be thankful for and this includes Evie being able to have SDR earlier this year. It has been a ride but has truly changed her life and ours. We are also so very thankful for all of you who continue to cheer our family on!
In the last month Evie has started her new fall schedule for therapy. Her schedule includes Conductive Education, swimming lessons, two sessions of physiotherapy and Sportball. Evie also has occupational therapy for a few weeks in October. She misses one day a week of school and is picked up a bit early two other days. So far things are working well and her school has been great and easy to communicate with.
Last weekend Evie did something I have never seen her do…RUN! She has managed to skip and do a few steps of a running pattern but never more than that. On September 30th Evie participated in the 1 km Kids Race for Grandview Kids. It was her second year participating. Though short on sleep, she finished the 1 km route. Near the end of the race, there were so many people cheering her on, she started to run! I was filming her at the time so we could compare to last year’s video (click here to see the comparison video). Below is one video of her running as well as crossing the finish line. So exciting and a very proud moment!!
Evie has also been practicing her jumping and can now jump in a circle! Her left leg remains weaker but it keeps coming along. We are hoping to hear from St. Louis soon regarding the videos and measurements we sent in. Evie’s team doesn’t think she is “tight” enough for orthopedic surgery but we have talked about another round of serial casting. She will be getting casted for new AFOs this month too.
October is always an exciting month for us as we love the fall, especially Halloween. I am so happy both my kiddos are into this spooky time of year!
Enjoy your weekend!
