Day 184 – 6 Months Post-Op
It has officially been 6 months since Evie had her SDR surgery. Half a year!! Wow!
The last month has been a whirlwind! There was another intensive, another week of camp, swimming lessons, camping with friends, a family reunion, zoo trips, play dates, a birthday party, 54 month assessment, the SDR picnic, orthodic adjustments and Evie started Junior Kindergarten!!
The last two weeks have been lighter in terms of therapy. We all needed a bit of a break. This week was therapy free so we could get used to the school routine (I plan on writing a post about school soon). Next week Evie returns to March of Dimes for their Conductive Education program. She will be missing school that day. I will also be pulling her out a bit early for CME therapy one afternoon. Her school has been very supportive and I have given them a calendar with all of her upcoming appointments. Once October hits she will be going weekly to Grandview again for the rest of the fall, will be participating in Sportball and will still have swimming lessons (which she loves and has come a long way already). I worry this may be a lot now with school so we will try it out and make changes as needed.
We have not submitted our 6 month follow-up video to Dr. Park yet BUT our video is being edited. I really thought I would have submitted this weeks ago but August got so busy and time flew by (we also didn’t have her AFOs for a little bit as they were being adjusted). I am anxious to hear what they say and what recommendations they have. I can’t believe her life changing surgery happened 6 months ago!
I am so thankful we were able to go earlier to St. Louis as I can’t imagine how things would be now if she was only a month or so post-op and starting school. We would have figured it out of course (because you have to) but I’m glad she was able to get several months of working on her strength and skills before tackling the world of JK! I can’t thank you all enough for helping us make that happen! Thank you!!!!
Quick shout out to Helen who made this amazing quilt of “Froggie” for Evie. Froggie was by her side the whole time she was in the hospital and this not only a lovely quilt but a reminder of her journey. Thank you Helen!!
