Day 153 – 5 Months Post-Op
Another month has come and gone since my last blog post. Wowza! If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram (@being_e_cp), you have seen some of the fun things Evie has been up to over the last month. July was jam packed! There was a wedding up north, camping at a provincial park, a week of intensive therapy, a week of camp at March of Dimes, birthday parties, swimming lessons, Splash N’ Boots concert, physio and a few play dates. We also did a few day trips.
Evie is now 5 months post-op. She is noticeably stronger, especially in her left leg and her fluidity in her movement continues to amaze me. I almost forget how much harder it was for her to even get herself into a half kneeling position before. Now she can do “big stand-ups” using one leg at a time and we continue to encourage her to use this method to stand up. Stepping up onto curbs is so much easier too. Her left heel is still popping up more times than not which always stresses me out a little. We will be submitting her 6 month video follow-up in a few weeks to St. Louis and this is something I hope we can get some advice on. She is able to fully put it down and her range is still good. Habit? Sensory? No one seems to know. Next week we will be getting her orthodics looked at and see if they have any suggestions.
Just some highlights from July. She absolutely loved her week of camp at March of Dimes. It was a detective theme and she was there from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm every day which will be roughly what her school day will be. She made new friends, tried new things and had a blast! They focused on using their five senses. Special thanks to Oma who helped a lot this week as Brian was away for work. Evelyn has another week of camp later this month that I am sure she will also love!
Evie also completed an intensive at SMILE Therapy for Kids. She did an hour of strength training and an hour of CME each day for a week. She worked with her regular therapists and some new ones. They always do an excellent job at switching things up and getting her to work hard, while having fun! Evie did really well (Day 3 was a bit more challenging as she was tired) but overall I felt it was beneficial! Today she started another intensive!
I was saying the other day that SDR and St. Louis feels like another life time ago already. Things have been full speed ahead since the start of this year when Evelyn was preparing for SDR and hasn’t slowed down since. A month today she will be starting school. We are still working out the details of her schedule for the fall. We really want her to attend school as much as possible but still keep active and attend therapy. We are playing around with a few ideas in regarding days and times to miss. Going to school will be a big adjustment for her no matter what so I am sure things will change as the months go on depending on how things go with the balance. Either way, this Mommy is a tad emotional about her baby girl going to school but also very excited for her! She keeps telling me “Don’t worry Mommy, I will come back!”
Enjoy the last month of summer!
