Day 13 – Space Cadets
It was another grey and cool day so we decided to do an indoor activity this morning. We headed back to the Saint Louis Science Centre. We signed up for a family membership when we first arrived in town and we have been using it! Today we took Oma and Opa and decided to check out the planetarium which is included in our membership. We watched a really cute video about a young star (the sun) who is trying to find themselves. We learned about orbits, different types of planets and moons during the video. It was so neat to see the constellations as well. Evelyn enjoyed it and Wesley managed to only be restless for the last 10 minutes or so. Evie also really liked taking the cool elevator at the planetarium which was like a space ship.
Next we went to another area where you can build your own sails for boats. After you design your sail, you then race them on a track that has fans to propel the boats. Evelyn LOVES this activity and always talks about it. It was pretty busy at the centre today as it is Spring Break here so we got to see several different sail designs from other kids. Brian and Ev raced a few different versions of their sails and it was exciting!
After lunch we headed to physio. Just like yesterday Evelyn got to pick a few activities to do with Rebecca. She was in a better mood but we could tell her legs were tired. She started off on the treadmill where she practiced her side stepping. Next she got to try a new activity, bouncing a ball off a trampoline and then catching it. This worked her balance and standing skills. After Evie got to use one of the scooters. She was instructed to push herself backwards by alternating legs. This was difficult for her so her legs pretty much worked together pushing herself backwards. She was pretending to be a human bowling ball as she knocked down giant bowling pins. Lastly was the bike. She tried a different bike today which wasn’t as easy to pedal. Ev showed very little effort in trying to pedal so it was a short bike ride.
Later this afternoon Evelyn walked short distances independently around the hotel room. It seems easier for her to walk on her casts only and not when she is wearing her cast shoes. Only a few more days till the casts come off and I must say, they are getting pretty colourful! Evelyn said when I mentioned how space was running out “Don’t worry Mommy, I’ll have more cast-es in the future to decorate.” We all said we hope not but good attitude (haha). Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer and sunny so hopefully we can get outside.
