Day 122 – 4 Months Post-Op

Day 122 – 4 Months Post-Op

I can’t believe my last post was a month ago!  I have had every intention of writing more often but this last month has been jam packed and time has flown by!! Hello SUMMER!! Since June 7, Evie has wrapped up her “Kindergarten is Coming” program.  Parents were able to stay for the last session and see their kids in action and I was determined to attend as I totally forgot about it the last session (I felt so bad!). …

Day 92 – 3 Months Post-Op

Day 92 – 3 Months Post-Op

Today Evelyn is three months post-op! The last two months at home have been very busy so it is no wonder it feels like we were JUST in St. Louis.  Evelyn continues to have therapy 4 to 5 days a week.  This includes Conductive Ed, physiotherapy, Medek, strength training and sometimes the G-EO System (“The Robot”).  She has also been participating in a pre-school program that focuses on getting kids ready for school.  We felt it was important for her…

Evie. Set. Dance!

Evie. Set. Dance!

Things have been pretty busy with our family lately as there has been a lot going on so the blog has been on the back burner.  We have also been busy planning our celebration dance which took place last weekend at Annandale Golf and Curling Club in Ajax, Ontario.  The focus of the night was to celebrate Evie’s Life Changing Journey (so far) as well as thank our supporters and demonstrate how SDR changes lives.  Many of our friends, family…

Blog Book

Blog Book

I have really enjoyed writing and sharing this blog and hope once things settle down I can write more!  I  think these posts will be a great way to look back and reflect on this journey and share details with Evie when she is older.  When we got back from St. Louis, I had a moment where I was thinking, “What happens if I lost everything?!”  Yes, I know that there are ways to back websites up etc. but I…

Walk With Wish

Walk With Wish

Last week Evie met Virginia or “Wish” as her friends call her.  Virginia was in Toronto to visit with her friend Liz who was here from New York.  Liz was working with Mike Poole for the week as he specializes in SDR rehab and is in Toronto working with several families (we hope to work with him next time he comes here) for a few weeks.  Both of these ladies are in their 30’s, are super nice and have CP.  Liz…

First Week of Rehab

First Week of Rehab

Last week was Evelyn’s first full week of rehab…and we survived!  I meant to share the highlights sooner but we had a few house hiccups we had to deal with and then this past weekend Wes got an ear infection and the rest of us seem to be fighting colds/migraines.  I blame this wacky weather!! Evelyn’s first full week of therapy included traditional physiotherapy, CME, strength training and Conductive Education.  Evelyn was so happy to see all of her therapists…

So Long St. Louis

So Long St. Louis

Evelyn has hit the one month post-op milestone!  Since being back home we have been reflecting on the last month and everything that has happened.  When you are “in it” you sometimes don’t realize everything going on around you so thought I would look back and summarize this chapter of Evelyn’s Life Changing Journey! Highlights Evelyn having life changing surgery!  This has to be the biggest highlight because this procedure left her spasticity free (bye, bye spasticity).  Her future mobility…

Day 30 – Home Sweet Home

Day 30 – Home Sweet Home

We arrived home on Wednesday after two days on the road and the moment we rolled into our drive way, we all started cheering (even Wes, it was cute!)!  It was good to be back!  We drove through rain, then snow, then it was cloudy, then more snow, then wind and then more snow (and why is it still snowing in April!?).  It wasn’t the best drive but we made good time and stayed over night in Battle Creek, Michigan…

Day 26 – Last PT Session (Here)

Day 26 – Last PT Session (Here)

Happy Monday!  Our last full day in St. Louis started with snow on the ground and breakfast as a family at the hotel. We received breakfast buffet vouchers since we have been at the hotel for so long (32 nights) and we have enjoyed eating there (maybe too much!). Today there was  eggs benedict and the weekends there is an awesome omelet bar. After breakfast we started to get organized for packing. It is crazy how much stuff four people…

Day 24 & Day 25 – Happy Easter

Day 24 & Day 25 – Happy Easter

Happy Easter!  We hope you all enjoyed this weekend with those you love and that the Easter Bunny found you 🙂 It was a fairly low-key weekend for our family as we are all pretty tired. Yesterday we drove around St. Louis and drove down the Delmar Loop.  We then ended up at the Science Centre again as Evie requested another visit. We shouldn’t have stayed as late as we did but we wanted to check out their Discovery Room…
