About Evie
Evie is a typical girl who loves music, dancing, being a big sister, going on adventures, making pancakes, and being a social butterfly. She is a kind and empathetic soul and is a true light in any room. She also happens to have Cerebral Palsy (CP) which she will live with the rest of her life.
Cerebral Palsy is the number one physical disability in children and is often a result of a brain injury around the time of birth. Evie was born 6 weeks premature, and started her life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Evie has Spastic Diplegia, meaning both of her legs are affected, more so her left. Her eyes are also impacted and often have trouble coordinating. People with CP age early, can live with chronic pain and develop joint deformities over time. CP affects everyone differently.
After a year of research, talking to other CP families and adults with CP, we learned about a surgery that could give Evie a brighter future. It is called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) and we decided to travel to see the world renowned neurosurgeon Dr. T.S. Park at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St Louis, Missouri.
After months of fundraising and receiving love and support from so many people, we made the trip down south. Evie had SDR on March 7th, 2018 and we feel it was truly life changing!
Below are our SDR fundraising and 2-month post-op videos to learn more about SDR and Evie.
Evie is now over 4 years post-op and continues to develop new skills. She never stops amazing us with her perseverance, determination and heart!
